When I went into town to collect our mail yesterday there was one of those wonderful cards sitting in there, full of promise, saying ‘You have a parcel to collect’! And true to it’s word when I went to see the nice lady at the little hatch she handed me a big, fat yellow envelope. Wanna see what was in it? My prize from sew mama sew! 6 delicious pink fat quarters……

So pretty, I am chuffed to bits with them.
More mail arrived too; remember we sent a card to Andy’s dad a couple of weeks ago? Well, he wrote back which was just lovely. Here are a couple of exerts from his letter. So wonderful to think that a few lines in a card made him so happy and prompted him to put pen to paper and write back…
“thank you both for the lovely card you sent us. It gave us a good laugh & it’s one we will keep. It was also nice, in this day & age of computers, mobiles etc to receive a simple letter full of news”
“this is the first letter I’ve written in many a year, so I needed the practice & they can only get better.”
It’s so easy to pick up the phone or send an email to say hello but I’m finding more and more as I send out more and more cards that people really appreciate a card received in the mail. Is there someone that you haven’t written a letter or a short note to in a while? Why not send an unexpected card today? If you want to know about the card sending service I use and love for it’s sheer convenience comment me or email me at flitterbys@bigpond.com.
For the final day of ‘past craft’ here’s a few quilts….

I made this last winter from a selection of Amy Butler and Heather Bailey fabrics. I made it using the ‘quilt as you go method’. I love the look and feel of hand quilting and this method makes hand quilting really manageable and portable, some of these squares came on a camping trip with us. It also meant I could make the back into a giant patchwork too.

This is an old fav. I bought about 20 cotton shirts from the opp shop, patched them together and added a few vintage buttons. I backed it with an old stripey cotton duvet cover. It’s so soft and has that worn and ‘used’ feeling.

A taggy quilt for my Pen Pals little girl. Lots of tutorials for these around the web. I found this one helpful. I also sewed a couple of little bells on the inside.
This last one got a few comments from the ladies at my sewing group back home, they kept asking if it was for a child. It was for my dad’s 60th birthday present!!! He flies Ultralights (microlights) so I thought this was most appropriate for him! It was from a pattern by Jan Mullens. I doodled with the quilting, adding a bit of Aussie sunshine and some wind trails. The label I made from a retro panel I picked up at an Opp Shop.

Today’s card is a ‘Thank You’.

Oh, I buy old clothes for my quilts, too! I love your plaid one. I’ve been slowly picking up yellow and blue colored shirts for the past 6 months or so, trying to get enough for a quilt.
